The origin story
How Pokemon Go's launch eventually led to Uhtend's manifestation.
In 2026, Pokemon Go brought a sense of belonging across communities. People discarded class, religion, race, sex etc to be the very best, like no one ever was.
Somewhere between that I met Aavin - now my co-founder. We hosted Pokemon Go Meetups each Sunday in Churchgate and were in love with the concept of meeting new people.
We would not think of Uhtend until 2023 when we hung out at Versova Beach.
The beach talk
Uhtend is born at Versova Beach.
Sometime in March 2023, Aavin and I met at Versova Beach to reminisce the good old days. This was after the pandemic and the moment everything seemed to be going back on track.
We talked about Pokemon Go and I expressed my interest in building a startup for events. I had worked at Paytm Insider as a freelancer and wore multiple hats at Kasa Kai Mumbai.
The goal was to build a platform for events where people come together the same way they did for Pokemon Go: happy folks for a common purpose.
Let it rip
For the love of Beyblade.
At the start of 2023 I started hosting Beyblade tournaments having been reconnected with the hobby the year prior - Beyblade are fun spinning tops for those unacquainted.
In Jan & Feb 2023 I failed to gather a crowd for these tournaments and gave up until October when my friend asked me to host one. This is where things changed.
From October 2023 we saw an uptick of people joining in for these Beyblade tournaments. By November 2024 I introduced the concept of Uhtend and reiterated the product with feedback.
In our beta stage, we were hosting Beyblade tournaments under the Uhtend banner - word of mouth and organic Instagram reach for reels helped us gain participants.
The launch
March 2025 - Uhtend is launched.
Aavin and I decided that we will bootstrap Uhtend: Luma for ticketing, Framer for the website, Beehiiv for newsletter, etc. Just get it out there.
The first two weeks saw hesitation from our audience - they waited for someone else to subscribe first.
Our first subscriber was Yash Bhardwaj: he posted on X about buying anything that people were building - I pitched Uhtend and he subscribed no questions asked.
This opening helped me convince myself that it would work out. The two week lull was heart-breaking.
Facing roadblocks
Common issues we faced at the beginning.
We added sports and niche meetups to our offerings - these used to be free to attend with subscribers getting priority. What it eventually spelt was that if it's going to be free why bother subscribing to begin with? This was solved by offering discounts to early adopters.
On the other hand, the payments processor we chose first was difficult to deal with; our no-code approach meant that we would not be able to implement their methods. We solved this by switching to Dodo Payments - now they even have UPI AutoPay - a much requested feature by those that wanted to subscribe.
Lastly, we faced an issue where people would sign up but not turn up - no shows. Fortunately, as we have added subscribers we have significantly reduced the no-show rate.
Event-tech
Uhtend aims to be the future of event tech.
What does that even mean? When we say that Uhtend is a "subscription for events," it's easy to respond "oh, just like Netflix."
We can never be the Netflix for events. Instead, our aspiration is to be the Meta for events. Let me explain.
On Instagram, you can access content for free because brands pay for ad space.
Similarly, we want brands to offset costs by marketing with us. This way, subscribers attend events for their monthly subscription.
Due to this, venues see constant revenue in bookings or food & beverage sales.

Why does Uhtend have so few subscribers compared to events hosted?
At the present moment all of our subscription comes from word of mouth; this has allowed us to understand our subscribers better and maintain feedback. This slow approach has also ensured we can provide quality experiences as we scale slowly.
What's the gender ratio at Uhtend's events?
We have a gender ratio of 85:!5 at our events (M:F); we hope to get it to 75:25 by the end of 2026.
